About Chinese Consolidated Benevolent
Association

In order to distinguish associations from
different regions, there was consensus among the
first overseas Chinese that organizations on the
West Coast shall be known as “hui guan” (會館) or
“tang” (堂) whereas organizations on the East
Coast shall be
known as “gong suo” (公所), though both shall be
known as the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent
Association in English.

CCBA and TTV Host Holiday Parties for Seniors

Thanks
to the efforts of Larry Young, Chinese
Secretary for the current CCBA team of
officers, one hundred twenty turkeys
were delivered to the Chinese
Consolidated Benevolent Association
Community Center early Saturday,
November 10, 2012. A team of volunteers
helped moved the turkeys into the
building. That same day, members of the
CCBA Board of Directors were invited to
the Community Center to pick up a turkey

CCBA Mount
Hope Project

Recently
CCBA officers came across a
document which gave perspective
to CCBA’s involvement with the Chinese section of Mt. Hope
Cemetery. The document stated that in the 1930s, CCBA bought
a piece of land in the city-owned Mt. Hope Cemetery to
provide a temporary burial ground for Chinese sojourners
whose remains would eventually be sent home to their final
resting place, sometimes arranged by CCBA with community
donations.
The practice of “going home” in death was disrupted by the
war in China against Japanese aggression and later by WWII
and the conflict between the Nationalist and the Communist
