Chong Wa Benevolent Association of Seattle
The Chong Wa Benevolent Association was established around
1915 to provide a unified voice for Chinese Americans in
Washington State and to mediate disputes between family
associations and tongs. The principals for the association
are based on ideals promulgated by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.
Portland Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association
The Portland Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA),
the spokes group for the Chinese community, was formed in
the late 19th century to assist Chinese individuals in their
struggle with discrimination in employment, business, and
citizenship, to help Chinese who face difficulties with U.
S. immigration authorities and regulations, to arbitrate
disputes among various member associations, and to authorize
and manage activities in the interest of the Chinese
community and of the community as a whole.
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Chicago
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Chicago
is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our
Association was first established in the 1880s downtown at
Van Buren and Clark. It was relocated to Cermak and
Wentworth in 1916 when the downtown area was being
developed. The present site of the Association was built in
1958 with donations from the Midwest America Chinese.
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association
of San Diego
In 1920 the CCBA supplanted the Tong and became the
principal organization representing the San Diego Chinese.
In December of 1970, the CCBA was incorporated as a
nonprofit organization and subsequently received tax-exempt
status. In San Diego, the CCBA has evolved from a
traditional umbrella-type organization, where the largely
male merchant members oversaw the affairs of Chinatown, to a
more diverse one with emphasis on the charitable, social,
and cultural support of the community.
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association
of Los Angeles
Founded in 1989, the CCBA of Los Angeles
formerly named Wai Leung Gung Soh
(衛良公所), located on the 2nd floor of the
Garnier Building at Los Angeles street.
This historical building now is inside
the El Pueblo De Los Angeles Historical
Monument. Wai Leung Gung Soh changed its
name to Chinese Consolidated Benevolent
Association of Los Angeles in 1910.
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent
Association of New York
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) was
founded in 1883 to serve and protect the interests of the
Chinese people in the New York metropolitan area.
Historically it has performed a quasi-governmental role in
the Chinese community. The President of the CCBA has always
been referred to as the unofficial "Mayor of Chinatown".
